The Core is a new science and technology building which has just opened in Newcastle’s urban quarter. The Core, owned by Newcastle City Council, will houses companies working on a range of “future city challenges” including energy, transport, big data and cloud computing.

The ground floor of The Core is available to hire for conferences and events for up to 150 delegates. The space features two ceiling-mounted projectors, televisions and DVD facilities plus free use of flipchart equipment. Additional smaller meeting rooms are available on the upper floors. These comprise two seminar rooms each accommodating up to 36 delegates theatre-style plus four syndicate rooms seating between 10 and 16 delegates. There is a range of catering options available in-house.

The Core is located in the centre of Newcastle a two minute walk from St. James’ Park football stadium and metro station and a 10-15 minute walk from Newcastle Central station. The Sandman Signature Hotel is alongside.

Hotel du Vin has acquired its first hotel in London following its acquisition of Cannizaro House in Wimbledon, south London. The acquisition takes its tally of UK hotels to 16, all of which are located in regional towns and historic cities throughout the UK.

Cannizaro House has 46 individually designed bedrooms and a three-rosette, award-winning restaurant. The hotel has a selection of meeting rooms to accommodate from nine to 22 delegates for boardroom style meetings, training courses or presentations.

Cannizaro House is surrounded by nearly 1,200 acres of parkland and Wimbledon Common yet it is only 15 minutes by rail and 30 minutes by car from central London.

Marriott Hotels have announced plans to open a second Courtyard branded hotel in Scotland in early 2016 - in the centre of Edinburgh. The first opened at Aberdeen Airport last year with 194 bedrooms.

Courtyard by Marriott Edinburgh will occupy a listed building comprising three adjoining Georgian townhouses the façades of which will be restored after years of standing empty. Behind them will sit a new build 240-bedroom hotel featuring an open-plan public area, an all-day bistro styled restaurant, a fitness centre and a meeting room. Wi-fi will be free of charge throughout.

Courtyard by Marriott Edinburgh will be located in Baxter’s Place in an Edinburgh New Town Conservation Area and World Heritage Site -  a short walk from Edinburgh Castle, Princes Street and the Royal Mile.

Mama Shelter, the French brand of designer-budget hotels and now part owned by Accor, is set to open in London. Mama Shelter was created six years ago. With the help of Accor’s development and distribution network it plans to build the portfolio to around twenty properties over the next five years.

Mama Shelter hotels feature interiors from Philippe Stark, including exposed concrete walls and blackboard ceilings with graffiti plus a vibrant restaurant and bar.  The reception areas focus on bright colours and bold decorations as well as high-end technology.  

Mama Shelter hotels are currently located in Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux and Istanbul, with a sixth property opening in Los Angeles in February 2015.
