The demolition of Peterloo House in Dickinson Street in central Manchester is expected to start very shortly to make way for the construction of a new 20-storey building housing both a hotel and an aparthotel.

A 328-bedroom Motel One will be located on the lower floors with a 256-room StayCity aparthotel in residence from the ninth floor upwards.

Motel One St Peter’s Square will be the third Motel One in the centre of Manchester. The first opened across from Piccadilly station in 2015 with a second opening earlier this year at Royal Exchange.

It will also be the third StayCity in central Manchester. The group operates an aparthotel at Piccadilly with a second one in Laystall Street.

Manchester City’s star striker Sergio Aguero, Bournemouth FC’s goalkeeper Asmir Begovic and Olympic rowing champion Sir Steve Redgrave are just three of the people reportedly behind a project to convert Beneficial House in the centre of Birmingham into a 130-bedroom boutique hotel – a project we outlined yesterday.

Beneficial House is a seven-storey building which has been vacant for several years. However, it does command a good location overlooking the new Paradise development currently under construction in the centre of Birmingham.

Furthermore, the building is virtually within penalty kicking distance of Birmingham New Street Station.

Birmingham City Council is currently considering the planning application with a final decision expected in the coming months.

Barton Arcade is one of the oldest surviving Victorian shopping arcades in the UK today. It is located in Deansgate in central Manchester.

Barton Arcade also features a disused Grade-II listed basement which is set to be transformed into an events space.

Spanning 10,000 sq-ft, Barton Basement sits two levels underground beneath Deansgate and spans the entire length and width of the building.

A repair and restoration programme has seen the Victorian archways unblocked, original brickwork cleaned and floor space opened up to create one interconnecting space which claims to be one of Manchester’s most unique events hire spaces.

The space will be available for events hire, whether it’s for a few hours as a photography location or a couple of months as a pop-up venue.
