Plans submitted last summer to build a new 96-bedroom hotel on Blackpool's Golden Mile have been approved.

The new Sands Hotel will feature penthouse suites overlooking the promenade and the Irish Sea.

The Sands Hotel will be built on the site of the former Palatine Hotel which together with other buildings on the site, including Central Station, were demolished in the 1970s during a period of large-scale redevelopment in Blackpool.

The project is the brainchild of businessman Peter Swann, who owns the company that operates Sands Entertainment Venue in the resort and who is also chairman of League One side Scunthorpe United FC.

Work is expected to begin on the hotel by summer 2017.

Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) has just opened its new conference and events facility.

Plans have been published to build a new £70million luxury, 306-bedroom hotel in Liverpool's Baltic Triangle after property developers released plans to change the use of an existing residential scheme.

The site overlooking Queen's Dock on Norfolk Street in Liverpool currently has planning consent for 253 apartments. A ‘change of use’ could see the site open as the Vincent Residence & Hotel.

The Vincent Residence & Hotel would be the third hotel in the group’s portfolio alongside the Times Hotel on Seel Street in Liverpool and the Vincent boutique hotel just up the coast in Southport.

The proposed development would also include 50 serviced apartments, a 10,000 sq-ft basement events space, a rooftop restaurant plus a lounge, a spa, a gym and an outdoor circuit training terrace on the roof.

If planning permission is granted, construction on-site could start in summer 2017.
