The Fragrance Group, the Singapore-based property and investment company, have bought the Municipal Buildings from Liverpool City Council and plan to convert them into a four-star hotel and restaurant.

The local authority’s 130,000 sq-ft, Grade II-listed, former administrative headquarters are located on Dale Street in the centre of Liverpool.

The Municipal Buildings had been a home for Liverpool City Council since the 1860s.

A report due to go to the authority’s cabinet on Friday 3 February will recommend approval of the sale.

The Fragrance Group has just acquired the four-star, 180-bedroom Imperial Hotel further up the coast in Blackpool.


 


Hilton has published plans to open a Hampton by Hilton in Blackpool in 2018.

With 130 bedrooms, the new Hampton by Hilton Blackpool will open at the corner of Wimbourne Place and New Southern Promenade.

Hampton by Hilton Blackpool will be within a five-minute drive of Blackpool Airport and within walking distance of Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Hampton by Hilton Blackpool is one element of a £31 million regeneration project which includes new office and retail outlets as well as additional tram stops between main train stations and the city centre.

The project is part of  “Destination Blackpool”, the local council’s masterplan for 2015-2017, which aims to transform perceptions of Blackpool.


Yotel have announced that it is to open its third UK site in Clerkenwell, London with 212 cabin-style bedrooms. It is expected to open late 2018.

Bedrooms in the new Yotel will be small but high-tech with a space-saving adjustable SmartBed, a monsoon rain shower and techno-wall features.

The Yotel will also feature a gym, bar, independent dining outlets and flexible meeting and co-working space.

Ground has already been broken on site at 96-100 Clerkenwell Road.

Yotel currently have two airport hotels in the UK at London Heathrow and London Gatwick Airports. Yotel Clerkenwell represents the group’s first city centre venture.

Signature Living have unveiled plans to open a George Best-themed hotel in Manchester, which would pay tribute to the legendary footballer's life.

Signature Living operate the Shankly Hotel in Liverpool which pays homage to Bill Shankly, the former manager of Liverpool Football Club.

The Shankly Hotel is furnished Shankly memorabilia plus trophies won during his long reign at Liverpool together with personal items.

Signature Living has started the search for a suitable building in Manchester to house the proposed hotel.

Lawrence Kenwright, founder of Signature Living, said: "We're starting our search for a building in Manchester for the George Best Hotel and are keen to hear from anyone with ideas about suitable locations”.

In the more immediate future Signature Living is opening the Exchange Hotel in Cardiff in what was formerly the Coal Exchange Building in Cardiff. The Exchange Hotel is expected to open in April 2017
 


A new hotel could be coming to Bolton shortly if plans by the Local Authority meet with success.

The council is planning construction of a new office block which will include a hotel as well as a multi-storey car park to complement Bolton’s new £48million transport interchange being built next to Bolton station.

The development – ‘Trinity Gateway’ - is at the junction of Trinity Street and Bradshawgate in the centre of Bolton.

A planning application is expected to be submitted in the middle of 2017, with construction anticipated to start later this year.
